OTC Space Registered Readers Demographics

Updated: August 3rd 2017

We thought you might like to know who the readers of the site are, and look behind the curtain, Wizard of Oz style. Reader statistics were last provided on the 28th of March 2017, and we’re pleased to announce (as of August 2017) we now have more than 4,400 registered readers, including 140 new readers since our last report in March 2017, in addition to other daily visitors.

Breakdown by Seniority and Region

The first chart shows our current readership by region, the largest readership growth having been in Europe with an increase of 79. This is followed by an increase of 33 in North America, and 28 in Asia.

Readers by Type of Organisation and Region

The chart shows the number of registered readers split by the type of organisation they work at and the region of the world they work in.

Readers and Years of Experience

In the chart below the bar indicates the total number of registered readers in each experience band.

  • 62% of readers have 10 years experience or more
  • 41% have 15 years experience or above

Function by Experience Band

From the raw data captured on registration for Role / Position a reasonable mapping can be made to a functional area. In many cases the role title such as “VP” gives no indication of what a person actually works on, so the top category of Function is “Management”. Please take this chart with a pinch of salt, it can only be indicative given that we don’t ask people to actually pick a functional area upon registration.

Registered Readers Growth

This chart shows readership registration growth since we began monitoring registrations in March 2014, and indicates an impressive growth rate.

Geographic Spread

The chart below is based on location data captured by Google Analytics, from each persons web browser and computer. The UK bias to the distribution could be attributed to the fact that the OTCS team are in the UK, but having discussed this with two other websites, there seems to be a bias in the UK and Europe to engage on-line. In this chart a Session means one site visit by a person.

Site Traffic

Last 12 Months Unique Visitors

Since the 3rd August 2017, the number of unique visitors per day is shown below. On average (over all time) the site is visited by 251 unique visitors per day but usually hits around 500 at the beginning of each week. A number of peaks achieve more than triple that average (both registered readers and other public visitors).

Last 12 Months Page Views

Each of the visitors above consumed multiple pages on a visit, averaging 658 pages per day with various peaks achieving double that average. An almost standard pattern to each week is an enthusiasm on Monday for reading on-line, which decays as the week goes by – the implication is that publishing over the weekend to reach readers on Monday gives the best take-up.

Last 12 Months Audience Freshness

The site keeps attracting new visitors, indicating the demand for the content on the site remains strong.

Rocket Magazine Distribution

Rocket Magazine has proven popular with recipients, many readers receive their copy direct to their letterboxes (you can subscribe here), some pick them up at conferences. We've published nine editions so far with an average print run of 1,000 per edition. We have also produced three special editions, one for the Clearstream GSF conference in 2015, one for the Comet 1 Stockholm Conference also in 2015, and another for the margining Breakfast Briefing in 2016. We have more issues of Rocket to come, you can find out more here.
