Don't keep your customers waiting!

One thing which is guaranteed to get me on my soap box is poor customer service. When a company displays a complete lack of care for its customers, its extremely disappointing but what is more heart-breaking is that company is made up of a team of individuals. When someone disrespects you and your custom, you are dealing with a person, not a faceless corporation. That person has it within them to be polite, show courtesy and to try to support you as a fellow human being.

This Risk article (subs.) lays out in more clarity the Volcker rule impacts and in particular market-making and CVA trading. Given the rule runs to 900 or so pages, no doubt there are more unintended consequences, buried footnotes and hidden gotchas to crawl from the woodwork as we proceed towards compliance in July 2015 (with full compliance possibly phased through July 2017). A Guide to the EMIR Trade Reporting Obligations - Part 1

+0

At that point exactly I felt a bit numb and I wished (unfortunately with no luck whatsoever) I had someone to guide me through the whole process and help me map the unknown territory.

On 1 September, ESMA issued its advice to the Commission on declaring countries outside the EU to be equivalent under EMIR.  The good news is that at long last we should have some certainty on what approach to expect.  The bad news: we are in for years of frustration as practitioners attempt to nit-pick their way through the new cross-border requirements.
