MIRANDA BRAWN HAS HAD THE ILLUSTRIOUS HONOUR OF BEING ELECTED A FELLOW OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF ARTS (FRSA) IN RECOGNITION OF HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO COMMUNITY WORK & DIVERSITY

Miranda Brawn (banker, barrister, business and diversity leader) has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA). It is more commonly known as the Royal Society of Arts or RSA. This is in recognition of her outstanding contribution to community work and diversity in the UK.

The RSA is an enlightenment organisation which is committed to finding innovative practical solutions to today's social challenges. Through its ideas, research and 27,000-strong Fellowship, it "seeks to understand and enhance human capability to close the gap between today's reality and people's hopes for a better world".  Based in London and founded in 1754, the RSA was granted a Royal Charter in 1847 and the right to use the term Royal in its name by King Edward VII in 1908.  The RSA Fellowship is a network of people from a wide range of backgrounds, united by a desire to build a better society. There are over 27,000 Fellows in more than 80 countries, working together for the benefit of their communities.

The RSA supports Fellows in developing local networks and initiatives and through RSA Catalyst programme it provides money and expertise to Fellow-led ideas that aim to have a positive social impact. Being elected an RSA Fellow depends on having achieved a contribution to society in a cultural or arts-related sphere. Miranda was invited to become an RSA Fellow on the basis of her extensive diversity leadership initiatives. Miranda is helping to champion the diversity cause in the UK and has launched diversity initiatives to help close the race diversity gap in the UK workplace such as the “Miranda Brawn Diversity Leadership Scholarship” for students aged between 14-21 years old from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) background.

Reacting to news of her Fellowship, Miranda said:  "I am delighted that my involvement in and commitment to improving our society has been recognised through this fellowship. Being elected a Fellow of the RSA is without doubt an honour and privilege to be invited to join a highly respected society which is home to some of the greatest thinkers of our time. Past and present members include Charles Dickens, Adam Smith, Benjamin Franklin, Karl Marx, William Hogarth, John Diefenbaker, Stephen Hawking and Tim Berners-Lee. Further to this, my election to the RSA falls in line with my goals in making a real impact on business. The Society has a long and prestigious history which is committed to finding innovative and practical solutions to today's social challenges. It is the perfect environment where individuals who want to make a difference to public policy and contribute to change can do so in more collaborative and informative way. I look forward to being exposed to additional issues and perspectives that can be brought to the forefront of my mind, while working with the Fellowship Community on a range of issues where my experience and skills may be helpful to others. One of my particular interests is seeking to bridge the race diversity gap in the UK workplace and I look forward to meeting other Fellows who may have an interest in similar areas. It is a privilege to be associated with such an august institution.”
